Objective
Research objectives and content
The objectives of the project is to obtain transgenic plants to study the transcriptional regulation of the genes implicated in the synthesis of glutathione and homoglutathione and to study the regulation of the synthesis of glutathione and homoglutathione under osmotic stress in Medicago truncatula. Transgenic plants expressing a reporter gene under the control of the promoters of the genes implicated in the synthesis of glutathione and homoglutathione will be constructed and analysed. In parallel, the regulation of the synthesis of glutathione and homoglutathione under osmotic stresses will be studied. The glutathione and homoglutathione content will be analyzed by HPLC, the level of the enzymes will be studied by western blot and the level of expression of the genes will be studied by Northern blot.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
This stay, in a laboratory which has a high training capacity, will help me to strengthen my experience in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry and to develop my competences in Plant Molecular Biology. This training will give me a good chance to find a position in Spain.
Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
This project has direct applications in the human nutrition field. The production of antioxidant molecules like hGSH either as pure compound from plant cell cultures in bioreactor or as an enhanced part of the plant raw material itself is of great interest. This will be developed in collaboration with the Nestle Research Centre (Tours, France) which is the partner of the ERS 590.
