Objective
Research objectives and content
The proposed research project is related to two topics, quantum information and quantum chaos. QUANTUM INFORMATION The performance of quantum mechanics -based computation and communication can substan- tially exceed that of the classical one. We will investigate how networks for quantum computation and communication can be realized with cavity QED, ion trapping and single photon optics techniques. As an example we mention the possibility of producing a se- quence of entangled qubits by enforcing single photons to leak out of a cavity with given time-intervals. QUANTUM CHAOS Until now the study of quantum chaos has been associated mainly with basic research. Classical chaos has been suggested to be applied for example in communication: the synchronization of chaotic systems can be used to ensure secret information transfer. The possibility of synchronization of chaotic systems in the quantum case has not yet been studied. This will be the specific topic of the quantum chaos -related part of the project.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The host institution is in the frontline of the quantum information research and has expertise in quantum chaos. It is thus able to provide excellent research training in these fields.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
