Magnetic interactions in low-dimensional heisenberg systems

Objective

Research objectives and content
The object of the research is to derive acurate parameters for the magnetic interaction in low-dimensional Heisenberg systems as Sr2Cu03, SrCu02, CuGeO3 and NaV2o5 and to gain insight into the electronic structure of these transition metal (TM) materials. The materials will be modelled within the embedded cluster approach, which allows for a rigorous treatment of the electron correlation and localisation effects appearing in TM materials. Furthermore, we will derive model parameters which are used in more approximate theoretical studies of the electronic structure of solid state compounds. Moreover, we will study the pressure dependence of the magnetic interactions, determine the relative energies of local electronic transitions on the TM ion, and calculate the nuclear quadrupole moment and from factors.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The most innovative aspect of the current project is the approach allows for a very accurate determination of the magnetic coupling parameters which at present are subject of controversy. Because the embedded cluster model approach has not been applied to these low-dimensional Heisenberg system before, we expect to derive important insight in the electronic structure of these TM materials.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
