Investigations into the structure of m-theory

Objective

Research objectives and content
During the past years a revolution has taken place in string theory. It has been realised that all perturbative string theories can, in various limits and compactifications, be obtained from one fundamental theory in eleven dimensions. This theory is known as M-theory. It is still incompletely understood, and only a few aspects of the full theory are known. I hope to participate in the efforts to unravel the mysteries of M-theory. A natural starting point being the M(atrix) theory proposal. The structure of the low energy effective action of M-theory also merits further investigation. Another objective is the continuation of the study of four-dimensional heterotic string theories obtained by compactifying M-theory. These theories are expected to be of relevance for addressing phenomenological questions.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
I believe that a stay at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge will be very fruitful. I hope to be able to benefit from the expertise of the department. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
