Objective
Research objectives and content
This is a project to study the dissociative recombination of the molecular ions NO', N2' and CO' from the theoretical point of view. Total cross sections, rates and branching ratios will be calculated at conditions existing in the Earth and Mars ionospheres.
The calculations will be performed in the multichannel quantum defect theory and will use ab initio molecular data obtained by myself and coworkers. The results obtained will be compared with current and existing experiments recently carried out in the European heavy ions torage rings Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The training objective of this project is to get experience in the treatment of dissociative recombination and, in particular, one of the main tools employed in its study: multichannel quantum defect theory. I will benefit from working with very experienced researches in this field and, hopefully, experimentalist and ionosphere models will benefit from the results it will produce.
