Short pulse high intensity laser plasma interactions

Objective

Research objectives and content This proJect involves providing theoretical support to the experimental programme at Grupo de Lasers e Plasmas (GoLP) at IST and contributing to their existing theoretical programme. This will involve the development of a new code which will include an electron interaction model and the photon kinetic model developed at GoLP as well as the use of codes and models which have already been developed at Imperial College. The new code will be used to study electron acceleration, an experimental programme on this at GoLP is already planned. It will also give me a chance to become more directly involved in experimental work. Development of theoretical work on photon and electron transport will also be carried out. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) This project will provide training in the physics of laser propagation in plasmas, laser plasma electron acceleration and experimental techniques. It will also provide the opportunity to extend work on electron transport already carried out. The training in laser propagation will complement my knowledge on electron transport in laser plasmas. The experimental experience will lead to a better understanding of experimental techniques, of what information is required from computer models and how to interpret and critically review experimental results Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
