Objective
THE RESEARCH PROGRAM AIMS AT CONTINUING THE SUCCESSFUL WORK OF THE HCM CONTRACT NO CHGE CT93-0033 WITH THE RESEARCH VESSEL SONNE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS TO COME.
THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF RESEARCH IN THE AREA OF MARINE GEOSCIENCES CONTRIBUTE SUBSTANTIALLY TOWARDS THE UNDERSTANDING OF GLOBAL CIRCULATION OF MATTER, GEOLOGICAL TECTONIC PROCESSES, SEDIMENTATION, MARINE ECOLOGY AND BIOLOGY, DEEP SEA RESEARCH, OCEANOGRAPHY AND CLIMATOLOGY. THE PROPOSAL AIMS AT PROVIDING ACCESS AND RESPECTIVE TRAINING FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS FRoM EU-COUNTRIES WHICH DO NOT DISPOSE OF WORLD WIDE OPERATING RESEARCH VESSelS FOR MARINE RESEARCH GROUNDS OF MODERN UP-TO DATE DEEP SEA RESEARCH.
THE PROGRAM IS INTERDISCIPLINARY AND SPANS FORM GEOPHYSICAL EXPLORATIONS OF THE StRUCTURE OF THE EARTH CRUST, GEOLOGICAL/GEOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF RIFT VULCANISM, STRUCTURAL ORIENTED INVESTIGATIONS OF THE HYDROTHERMAL MINERALIZATIONS, SEDIMENTATIONS AND MATERIAL TRANSPORTATION, BLACK SMOKER AND DEEP SEA BIOLOGY, ECOLOGICAL INFLUENCE OF DEEP SEA MINING ON THE EXISTING ENVIRONMENT, OCEANOGRAPHIC MEASUREMENTS OF LARGESPACED CIRCULATIONS OF THE OCEANS, TRANSFORMATION OF THE MATTER UP TO FLUIDIC BALANCING OF CLIMATICALLY GEODYNAMIC PROCESSES OF MARINE CHEMISTRY. THIS INCLUDES ALSO WORKS ON WOCE - WORLD OCEAN CIRCULATION EXPERIMENT AND JGOFS - JOINT GLOBAL OCEAN FLUX STUDY.
