Objective
Following on from the success of the first EUROFLAM programme, ENEL-CRT will improve the access offered on its large semi-industrial and demo scale facilities, located in:
* Leghorn
Pilot scale plants for fundamental combustion studies are located in this area. The originality of the experiments is due to the advanced diagnostic capabilities available.
* Sesta
This area is devoted to research on gas turbine combustors. On the existing atmospheric rig it will be possible to carry out fundamental studies and advanced diagnostics development. The full scale test rig (up to 33 kg/sec of air at 25 bar) will be used to test new low NOx combustors and diagnostics techniques in conditions similar to those of the engine.
* Santa Gilla
This is an old power station equipped with two 35 MWe boilers, now completely devoted to research purposes. An existing furnace for burner testing is under modification to become a boiler simulation facility to develop new low-NOx combustion technologies.
Experience will be provided in the form of a series of modules, up to 6 month duration allowing 12 investigators to be accomodated in a 12 month period. The availability and quality of access will be enhanced via the requested of funding from RTD Access Improvement Programme.
