ACCESS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL FACILITIES of DELFT HYDRAULICS

Objectif

DELFT HYDRAULICS offers access to ten experimental facilities to European Scientists and Engineers. Some of these facilities are unique because of their size, others because of their specific advanced research possibilities. Also the combination of complementary facilities in one location is unique in itself, giving the visiting researchers a unique possibility to enhance their understanding of hydraulic phenomena considerably. The facilities involved are:
A. Rotating Annular Flume C. Cutting and dredging flume D. Wave flume for large-scale testing G. Glass-wall wave flume M. Multi-directional wave basin O. Oscillating water tunnel S. Sand flume T. Tidal flume V. Test rig non-return valves W. Wind-wave flume
The above facilities are specially suitable for basic and applied research in the field of hydrodynamics and morphology (both coastal- and river morphology). More specifically, well controlled experiments can be carried out in the fields of: turbulence, diffusion, wave-current interaction, wave breaking, wave-, current- and wind load on (offshore) structures, transport of pollutants, flow through pipelines and valves, etcetera. Through this proposal, DELFT HYDRAULICS also offers excellent training opportunities to (young) European researchers who will be fully supported by scientific, technical and logistic staff of DELFT HYDRAULICS. They will be enabled to familiarize themselves with a range of large-scale facilities, intrumentation and experimental techniques.
The evaluation of the Research Proposals will be oordinated through a common Scientific User's Selection Panel for the parallel efforts undertaken by HR Wallingford (GB), DHI (DK) and DELFT HYDRAULICS (NL).
