ReSEARCH ACTIVITIES ON 3D WAVE HYDRODYNAMICS AND INTERACTION WITH STRUCTURES

Objetivo

The Offshore Wave Basin (OWB) at Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) is a large and very versatile test facility, where realistic sea waves can be generated using the unique 60 flap wavemaker. All necessary peripherals (instruments, computers, etc) together with an experienced staff are available. The facility has been used by EU researchers under the HCM programme.
The objective of making the OWB available is to provide a unique facility for verifying analytical and numerical models and for doing basic research within:
wave analysis and generation, wave hydrodynamics (wave kinematics), and wave-structure interaction
Expressions of interest in obtaining access to the OWB have been received from 32 EU-based research groups. The evaluation of the Research Proposals will be coordinated through a common Scientific User Selection Panel for the parallel efforts undertaken by HR Wallingford (GB), Delft Hydraulics (NL), and Danish Hydraulic Institute (DK).
DHI is an independent self-supported organisation. DHI has an international working atmosphere due to extensive involvement in international projects and R&D programmes, and due to an increasing number of foreigners in the staff. The environment is thus perfectly suited for hosting, supporting and training external researchers.
The research activities will provide a unique opportunity for talented European researchers to advance the state-of-the-art within offshore and ocean technology, and allow themselves to become far more experienced and qualified for doing work on basic and applied research.
