FUNDAMENTALS AND APPLICATIONS of COHERENT MATTER WAVE SOURCES USING LASER COOLED ATOMS

Objective

The recent achievements in laser cooling and manipulation of atoms as well as the latest developments in atom optics has moved the whole field to the in leading groups in quantum optics, atom optics and non linear atom boundaries of the new regime where coherent matter wave interactions will physics. Furthermore the training concept of the proposed network includes become dominant. It will be the synergetic effort of the whole network to the presentation and critical discussion of new results on special network explore and to investigate the complex interactions of coherent matter workshops, young scientists meetings and intemational conferences. waves within atomic ensembles at these ultra low temperature and extreme densities. The profound knowledge of the interactions will play the key role for the next generation of fundamental and applied research projects like the development of novel atomic de Broglie-resonators, which will be intensively investigated by the network. This will enable new coherent matter wave sources like 'atom lasers', which will become extremely important tools in fundamental and applied research in the near future. This program - including theoretical and experimental studies - will stimulate the fields of atomic physics, laser physics ad quantum optics and the applications show the way to nanostructuring, atom lithography and atom microscopy.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
