ORGANIZATION, DYNAMICS and REACTIVITY AT ELECTRIFIED LIQUID/LIQUID INTERFACES

Objective

Training in research techniques: Exchange of personnel will have a "hands-on" experience on the research methods used in each laboratory. The interrelation between molecular level organisation and interfacial reactivity at molecular liquid interfaces. The programme has been Network will support some specific optical and electrochemical techniques for training purposes. Training in advanced topics: (i) The Network will structured around three main themes:
organise European workshops for the training of young researchers in the Theme 1: Interfacial organisation and architecture, to study the influence fundamentals of the Network work. These will be open to researchers of electric field and surface energy on interfacial organisation. Modern outside the Network. . (ii) Use will be made of the postgraduate and MSc surface sensitive spectroscopic and other techniques will be employed e.g. SHG, SFG, SNIFTIRS, Area Modulation.
courses offered in the participating institutions. Scientists associated with the Network will have the opportunity to follow advanced courses in Theme 2. Dynamics of charge transfer reactions and study of coupling between charge transfer and interfacial organisation in relation to other participating laboratories. Our aim is to create in Europe a minimum common standard in the areas of activities of the Network. . important problems of both practical and theoretical interest such as the relationship between the structure of drugs and their ionic transfer properties across biological barriers. Ion and electron transfer kinetics will be investigated for possible applications to metal extraction and zero emission industrial processes.
Theme 3: Reactivity investigations for the development of functionalised liquid/liquid interfaces, exploiting the control that can be achieved on interfacial organisation to carry out specific transformations or alter reactivities. Examples are reactivity of surfactant modified interfaces, two phase electrocatalysis and electroanalytical applications.
