Objective
The project aim is to implement a Product Data Management System (PDM) into 4 European SMEs, to improve their development processes (the time to market process). An improvement of these processes will have a positive effect on the participating SMEs' competitive advantage. The project will also develop a concept showing how to implement PDM-systems in SMEs, taking into account the limitations in the resources available in SMEs to put into internal IT projects.
Implementing a PDM system gives the following advantages to the consortium enterprises:
- productivity in research and development increased by 40%
- error level in production is reduction of 50%
- efficient access to critical data
- process efficiency (time-to-market-process) improvement of 40%
These business objectives can normally only be achieved by large enterprises. In this project the consortium will prove that these objectives can also be achieved by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
PDM and the theory behind it was originally made for large enterprises. This advanced IT tool will be redesigned with the sole aim of enabling implementation within SMEs.
