Objetivo
The main objective of the project is the establishment and operation of a Multimedia Support Network for Education in Europe, with the name MENON (the work of Plato presenting Socrates "Meeftiki", as an effective learning procedure), to contribute to the uptake of the multimedia industry, by supporting the competitive production and delivery of educational multimedia products of real "usage value", ie. of real learning value.
In order to proceed with this objective the project aims at:
- the rationalization of the educational multimedia development procedures (production and customisation), in order to meet the needs of a fragmented and highly demanding market (see "Statement No.2" of the Intermediate Report of the Task Force on "Educational Software and Multimedia"), and
- the increase (maturity) of the demand of educational multimedia software, by promoting changes and good practice of use of the new learning media in the educational environment as well as by upgrading the human resources in the education sector ("state-of-the-art" information, training, guidance, etc. to teachers, decision-makers, national and/or regional educational authorities, Schools of Education, etc.), particularly in the environment of Primary and Secondary Education, as the latter corresponds to a major potential (see "Statement No.3" of the Intermediate Report of the Task Force on "Educational Software and Multimedia") for the materialization of the "Information Society" in Europe.
The project will:
- establish a networked operational framework to provide multimedia support services of high quality standards to both the industry and the educational community
- develop and provide the support services, in a business oriented way, ensuring flexible and cost effective delivery platforms (one-stop service, digital forms, on-line distribution,etc.)
- establish an organization structure, in the form of a European Economic Interest Group (EEIG), to run the MENON Network from project year 2 and onwards.
The work to be done is divided into six Workpackages:
- WP1 for the project Management and Evaluation,
- WP2 for the project awareness and the promotion of the Network and its services (marketing),
- WP3 devoted too the work for the establishment of the EEIG,
- WP4 for the development of the services targeted to the multimedia industry (producers),
- WP5 for the development of the services targeted to the educational community and
- WP6 for the development and delivery of the services targeted to both sides (horizontal type).
The partners of MENON are not strategically and/or exclusively oriented towards the development and delivery of multimedia products, thus being able to find common fields of collaboration with the multimedia industry, to achieve mutual benefits. On the contrary, they have acquired experience and know-how not only on the production, but also on the pilot use of these products in the educational environment, thus consisting a very competetive network of knowledge, skills and competencies, covering both the needs of supply and of the demand side of the educational multimedia market.
