Pre-processing phases and, more specifically, mesh generation is recognised to extend the use of HPCN analysis, simulation and design in a range of applications in industries such as automotive mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aeronautical engineering. CHAMAD automates mesh generation and mesh adaptation (successive refinement and coarsening) for hexahedral conforming unstructured grids, and some work is also devoted to non-conforming meshes.
CHAMAD is built around strong requirements expressed by end-users from the automotive, aeronautical and civil engineering fields, who have identified the meshing bottlenecks in their design cycles, and who want to take advantage of the considerable progress made in the computation and visualisation parts.
The potential market of CHAMAD tools, either as stand alone tools or as components integrated into existing software suites, is the market of numerical modelling (non linear structural analysis, fluid dynamics, electromagnetism). The main benefits for customers are achieved from the numerical modelling of complex geometries, for which the typical cost of several weeks of manpower to build and to adapt one mesh can be divided by four to ten.
Moreover, this strong cost and time reduction makes the fast prototyping of new geometries much easier, as CHAMAD tools can deal with raw CAD definitions (with overlaps, unused surfaces, leaks etc.) and as the mesh refiner and coarsening functionality can make the adaptation of the mesh to high quality results automatic.
A significant part of CHAMAD is dedicated to evaluation and demonstration. These evaluations concern applications in:
-Fluid dynamics (car body, car passenger compartment, pump volute, hull-propeller combination).
-Structural analysis (hydraulic dam, turbine rear cone attachment, crank, blade dovetail).
-Electromagnetism (MRI magnet, electric motors, etc.).
