Objective European textile industry needs to take corporate responsibility for global social and environmental impacts while facing increasing competition from low-wage producers . Objectives are to enhance business assessment of complex sustainability issues, help them translate customers´ ethical and quality expectations into competitive opportunities and identify new skills to be trained so as to boost European employability in the textile sector. This will be achieved by focusing on the global production/consumption cluster, using participatory methods to integrate complex issues, and facilitating an innovative multi-stakeholder process. Results should be a clearer delineation of the sustainable competitiveness agenda through agreed "sustainability principles" along the textile life chain.
