Objective
The European Commission wishes to ensure that European manufacturing industry in 2015-2020 will be highly competitive. Therefore, regardless of its profile and structure, there are particular factors that can be influenced and analysed, in order to bring such desirable situation about. The project will develop a major prospective mapping of three critical general capabilities and competencies - Technology, Knowledge and Skills, Organisation and Business capabilities, necessary to underpin a sustainable and competitive European manufacturing industry in the future. This will result in critical contributions to policy strategies including; dematerialisation of products through miniaturization, new materials, localized networks of production based on principles of industry ecology, product stewardship, closed loop production recycling and remanufacture.
