Objective
The target of project is the development of Ceramic Membrane Reforming (CMR) technologies for syngas production. CMR integrates air separation and partial oxidation in one unit avoiding energy consuming oxygen production. The successful development of CMR could reduce hydrocarbon resource consumption (10-15%) and carbon dioxide (>30%) emissions compared to current technologies in existing markets. The lower cost of syngas production using CMR could contribute to construction of GTL plants to produce synthetic fuels. This reduces gas flaring and the produced fuels generate less particulates and unburned hydrocarbons improving local environment and health. Europe and the consortium have jobs and a large market share in syngas related sectors. Two US headed consortia are developing CMR. European industry must maintain its competitiveness to secure employment and take its share on larger markets (GTL-plants) to ensure economic growth and create new jobs in the sector.
