Objective
Today circular tools, gang saws and wire saws are applied for the cutting of natural stone blocks into large slabs. The main disadvantages of these processes are environmental and economical. High waste rates of about 50-60% of the raw material, noise and dust generation in the factories, the deposit of the sludge and the waste of expensive and unique materials equal high total costs and high environmental leads. For this reason a system for band sawing of natural stone blocks into slabs of any size should be developed. Band sawing offers very thin cutting width and high accuracy. The solution will base on a single-point band sawing system. This will reduce the tool-workpiece contact from a contact area to a single point contact line resulting in low cutting forces and high workpiece accuracy. The developments will include an efficient diamond band sawing tool and a completely new machinery to fulfil the needs of the required complex kinematics.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
