Total service for the machine tool end user

Objective

The manufacturing paradigm is changing, and the production means must evolve to the new needs. The target of project SMART is to solve the needs and problems of the end-users of the machines and the ways the manufacturers offer new added value services, mainly small and medium enterprises. In this way, the project will contribute to the modernisation of those SMEs by enhancing the innovation capacity.

The SMART project will undertake the manufacturers need to offer a better service to the client, not only when a failure occurs but also for helping to improve the machining process and the operation of the machine. This project also intends to set the basis to take the maximum advantage of the opportunity given by the new numerical controls of machine tools and the opportunity to integrate intelligence into the machine tool providing higher reliability, higher process safety and lower efforts for service.
The project established the basis for agent implementation and produced some immediate results, but also started agents development. The resulting agent prototypes have reached different development stages: Machine Access Agent, Data Logging Agent, Visualization Agent, Monitoring Agent, Preventive Maintenance Agent are completely available; For the other agents a prototype is available; the development will go on after the project end, so that a marketable product will be ready some time after project end: Machine Diagnostic Agent after 6 months; Machine Tuning Agent, Operator Assistance Agent, Manufacturer Service Agent after 1 year Manufacturing Planning Agent; Hexapod Interface Agent after 2 years.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
