Objective
European Parliament and Council directive 94/62/EC states that the reduction of the packaging waste is essential for the substainable growth within the European Union. The proposed project aims at advancing available methods and processes in order to minimize the use of packaging materials in folding boxes made of paperboard. This will be done by two approaches:
- by optimizing boxmaking processes and particularly the process conditions of creasing of paperboard in order to ensure the runnability of folding boxes in converting and packaging machinery also for reduced grammages, and;
- by elaborating precalculation methods for determining the compression strength of folding boxes so as to avoid overdimensioned folding boxes.
The result will be disclosed to folding box manufacturing companies as well as to packagers in the form of solution concepts that are directly applicable in industrial practice.
