Objective
SECTOR: Enamelled copper winding/magnet wire. It is a technically critical product used in electricity generation, motors, self-propulsion, transformers, traction (railway), automation, etc, applications where the enamelled magnet wire has to suffer hard conditions (specially temperature).
PROBLEM: In the actual process (obselete) is using a basis coating product bath (35% resin and 65% solvents).
Problems are:
-ENVIRONMENTAL (the process causes toxic emissions of solvents to atmosphere);
- HEALTHY (laboralrisks in handling and transport the solvents), and;
- TECHNOLOGICAL (high energetic and maintenance costs).
Consumption of enamelled wire in Europe: 350.000 tons/year (solvents consumpted: 20.475 tons/year). Consumption of enamelled wire in Worldwide: 1.300.000 tons/year (solvents consumpted: 76.050 tons/year).
OBJECTIVE: the objective is solve this problem trough a RTD project, developing a CLEAN TECHNOLOGY (ULTRA VIOLET RADIATION TECHNIQUE) and using a NEW BASIS COATING PRODUCT (WITHOUT SOLVENTS).
This INNOVATING TECHNOLOGY (new in sector worldwide) will allows to comply the future European Standard: Guideline of the Council 1999/13/CE of 11/3/99 (volatile organic compounds emission due to the solvent usage in certain activities and installations) to be effective before April 30th 2001 for the European copper wire manufacture sector.
