Integrated process unit control and plantwide optimisation

Objective

Process industry has become more market driven. An increasing number of product grades have to be produced within tight specifications and against competitive prices using an increasing variation in input quality of feedstock material. Difficulties of production units to adapt to this demand lead to unnecessary resource usage, waste production and energy usage. INCOOP is an RTD project aiming at strongly increasing flexibility (e.g. fast and cost effective changeovers) and efficiency (towards the physical and chemical optima) of process plants. This will be done by setting the first important steps towards the control and optimisation technology of the future. RTD on two industrial benchmark processes (models) should lead to guiding principles for the systematic development of hybrid models and techniques to reduce the complexity of hybrid models in order to derive approximate models suitable for non-linear controllers and dynamic optimisers. Further RTD work will be done to develop dynamic optimisation algorithms, non-linear MPC and data-reconciliation techniques.
1. Prototype software tools that support or perform the aforementioned tasks. 2. Demonstration of the techniques:
- Simulations of industrial processes;
-First field test applications to real production processes at end-user sites.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
