Objective
Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) contains Zn,Pb,Cd and are considered as dangerous. Several hydro-and/or pyrometallurgical processes are applied to recover Zn from EAFD. These processes are partially successful due to presence of 7% of alkalis metal chlorides' ACls' and ZnFe204 in the EAFD. Electrodyalisis of contained ACls generates HCl and (Na,K) OH. HCl is used for leaching Zn, Pb, Cd oxides. Cementation with zinc powder allows the recovery of Pb, Cd metals. The generated ZnCl2 reacts with (Na,K) CO3 to produce ZnCO3. This solid is decomped at 350°C to ZnO. The generated CO2 is used to convert (Na,K) OH to (Na,K) CO3 the leaching's residue containing ZnFe204 is recycled in the EAF. The liquid effluent is re-used in the electrodyalisis unit. Electricity and EAFD are the only raw materials and no gaseous, liquid or solid wastes are generated.
