Objective
In order to reduce the vehicle weight, new materials such as aluminium alloys and high-strength steels are introduced in cars. Forming of such materials becomes more complex and needs a better characterisation of the materials and more reliable and efficient software for predicting forming defects. The aim of this project is to improve the ability of numerical codes to predict forming defects, an essential step towards a virtual try-out of the dies with theaid of a DIGITAL DIE DESIGN SYSTEM (3DS).
The project will have three objectives:
- Development of user-friendly methods and software for evaluating forming defects;
- Improvement of the ability of numerical software to predict forming defects;
- Selection of appropriate physical models and their identification.
The project will contribute to reduce materials waste, fuel consumption and gas emission directly related with car weight. This will save time, money, resources.
