The goal of the project is to develop and validate innovative design procedures combining numerical simulation, new materials and experimental testing for enhanced production of wear resistant rock cutting tools for construction machinery such as dredges, trenchers, road headers, tunnel boring machines, etc. The efficiency of the new rock cutting tools manufactured in the project will be validated through extensive laboratory and in situ field tests on a number of rock cutting operations. It is expected that the tools resulting from the project will have improved endurance properties, therefore increasing the efficiency of construction machinery.
