Automated environmentally friendly processing of structural thermoplastic composite components (ECOPROCESS)

Objective

Vehicle weight accounts for a significant proportion of fuel consumption and CO² emissions. As weight increases due to increased refinement/safety features the use of lightweight materials and construction techniques become increasingly important. Advanced composite materials offer the largest reductions in weight, but have limited use in the automotive industry due to high raw materials and component cost, inefficient production techniques, recyclability and high wastage. The aim of this project is to research and develop a material and processing concept for production of thermo-composite components with zero waste and processing emissions and inherent recyclability. If thermo-composite components could be manufactured cost effectively significant weight savings over metals could be achieved which would have major social, environmental and competitive impacts for Europe.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
