Objective
The present proposal addresses the need for a new generation of machinery in the field of rubber mixing. It is proposed to combine advanced scientific knowledge on rubber mixing and numerical techniques in order to simulate the flow in the mixing machinery and to numerically optimise the geometries of the rotors used therein. The objective is to develop rotors allowing to obtain rubber mixes containing less agglomerates (i.e; incompletely dispersed filler) . It is expected that industrial products made from these advanced mixes will show improved performances: the wear of tyres will decrease by 5 to 10 % and the resistance of technical rubber parts used under extreme conditions (aerospace and off-shore applications) will be improved.
