Objective
To compete in the global market, the European industry will have to significantly improve its ability to define, conduct and adapt complex business processes to reduced development and production times and changing customers needs. Current practice is to manually use a rather general process model and to fill in the details for each project. This practice is time consuming, costly and error prone. This increases the development time and costs and has an adverse affect on manufacturing process efficiency. Such a deficiency in the industrial production process affects the competitiveness of the European industry.
In the evolving reality of extended enterprises, consisting of different organizations with different processes and cultures, planning, coordinating and executing good quality processes is nearly impossible. Research activities in ProACTIVE strive at reducing costs and time-to-market and increasing quality and responsiveness-to-market for one-of-a-kind business processes in project industry. ProACTIVE will use modelling and configuration technology to define and adapt one-of-a-kind business processes in a virtual enterprise. The main results of the ProACTIVE project will be concepts and a methodology for (semi) automatic configuration and adaptation of business processes. Such concepts and methodology will be validated through industrial trial.
