Objective
The project goal is to develop a computer-aided design tool for the mechatronic design of machine tools. The primary result will be an integrated software tool that supports the mechatronic synthesis, analysis and optimisation of machine tools during the early stages of the design cycle as well as during the detailed design. The project will also result in a new design methodology which can be disseminated throughout the machine tool industry. Currently there is a lack of appropriate methods and tools for this kind of design support. This project is the answer to a demand for extra support during the early stages of the design process where the major decisions on the commitment of resources are made, and during the detailed design where precise modelling, analyses and optimisation techniques are necessary.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
