Eco-efficient novel enzymatic concepts for slime control in pulp and paper processing

Objective

Water circuits of paper mills are closed mainly to decrease environmental impacts. This creates favourable conditions for micro organism and leads to increased build- up slime deposits which cause severe operational problems, especially when recycled fibre is used as raw material. New eco-efficient methods for slime control are needed since conventional biocides are potentially toxic to the environment. The objective of the project is to develop novel enzymatic approaches for slime control in paper machines. The benefits of the new methodology include reduced effluent loads, improved productivity and improved final product quality and safety. The use of the new enzymes alone or in combinations and in synergistic action with conventional slime control agents will be optimised and the slime control methods scaled up to mill scale.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
