Autonomous manufacture of large steel fabrications

Objective

European, structural steel fabrication companies have difficulty in responding to the increasingly turbulent, competitive markets into which they sell and to customers who are ever more demanding about the cost, quality and performance of the products that they buy. They are also subject to legislative and employee pressure requiring improved and safer working conditions. Much of their difficulty is associated with the constraints imposed by the inflexible, dedicated equipment and production processes that they currently use. This project is aimed at the development and integration of technologies allowing replacement of the assembly line based approach to welded fabrication with automated, constraints free manufacturing in which the welding process is brought to the part to be fabricated. The proposed system will enable the production of high quality, customised products and will utilise autonomous, mobile robots in place of humans in hazardous areas of the fabrication environment.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal
