Safety improvement of vehicle passengers through innovative on-road "bio-mechanics" safety features

Objective

An European "must" is to get safer and safer our roads with consequent social/economical cost reduction for the Community. SAFEWAY will contribute studying 2 innovative barriers being, with respect to the present ones, less traumatic for the passenger and lighter (20%).

Focal point: the investigation is based on the real traumas observed in the passengers after the accident. This aspect is significant because no evident correlation between passenger injuries and EN1317 Standard parameters (i.e. ASI) exists.

The work is based on 8 WPs. WP1, databanks examination on accidentology; WP2, software validation to simulate the whole barrier/vehicle/passenger system; WP3, parametric investigations, design guidelines; WP4, prototypes design/construction; WP5, prototype validation via crash tests; WP6, on-road transferability; WP7, dissemination; WP8, management.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
