Airbag for the closing of pipelines on explosions and leakages

Objective

In factories of various - also modern - industries, flammable and explosive solids, liquids and gases are transported in pipelines of diameters up to meters. Explosion, leaks and propagation of flame gases lead to devastating damages (46% of buildings by gas explosions), risks for employees and neighboured population and hazardous emissions to the environment. New explosion isolation prototype systems are to be developed based on deploying airbags, which reduce substantially costs, react faster and cover unprotected cases of high risk. The work includes theory and tests on time scales and mass flow of airbag gas generation, bag textiles and bag deployment inleacting hot flows. The prototypes are tested at model applications of hot gas in power plants, liquids in semiconductor industry, transmission pipelines in gas supply and explosive gases and dusts in chemistry and mining. The results concern also environmental and safety impact, concepts for up-scaling and diversification to other branches.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
