Leak detection and reliability-based life prediction of water piping

Objective

Ca 1/3 of water provided by EU companies is lost by leakage. This raises health, safety, economic and sustainability concerns. Improved leak detection methods in connection with adequate decision support software to optimise spenditure of resources may contribute substantially to mitigate this critical situation. This work will develop an innovative leak inspection equipment for water pipelines based on microwave technology, and a decision support system, that will store available data on the pipe lines, and will receive input from leak inspections. It will perform condition assessment to determine residual lifetime.
