Knowledge integration and network expertise

Objective

High-tech SMEs operate in knowledge-intensive networks that stretch far beyond the borders of single companies. These networks turn knowledge management (KM) into a vital task, which is poorly solved because SMEs do not know the KM tools presently available or do not recognise their specific KM problem and consequently cannot choose from the variety of tools. Many KM tools are furthermore ill-suited for high-tech SMEs because they are preoccupied with IT, have little regard resources. KISME will solve these problems through - a knowledge-based system -the KINX system- that will enable European high-tech SMEs to self-diagnose their KM problem and match it with a suitable solution. - new tools for the least supported KM problems - the detection of knowledge in very dynamic network environments, the identification of highly specialised knowledge on the internet and the validation of business strategies in the light of new knowledge in order to recognise change. - advise to Policy-makers as how to foster nemorking among European high-tech SMEs.
