Objective
Seismic upgrade of existing structures is a major concern for several European countries. Recent construction codes allow to build safe new structures; but cost of upgrade works is still too high. On the other hand, recent research has shown that local soil conditions can significantly alter the effect of earthquake motion on a given structure. Objective of the NEMISREF project is to develop new geotechnical foundations types with the objectives of mitigating the seismic risk of existing structures and reducing their displacement to tolerable values.
