Objective
European paper industry is in the forefront of process industries in development of efficient and ecological operation. Recycled fibre is used increasingly as a raw material, "process kidneys" are being developed to reduce the use of fresh water, and complex chemical systems guarantee the microbial purity of products and efficiency of processes. As a result the processes are more complex to operate, and in particular mastering their dynamics is difficult. At the same time, competing technologies are forcing paper industry to transform from commodity producer into flexible customer-focused industry. DOTS with strong industrial contribution develops methodologies and tools in operations scenario management and dynamic optimisation to support decisions on operational tasks so that production is eco-efficient and flexible. The tools are tested in three full-scale applications. Tools are expected to find applications also in process industries.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
