Process industries safety management thematic network on human factors

Objective

There is a significant difference in safety performance in the process industries, both between Member States and between manufacturing companies. Organisations, whether large multinationals, or SMEs are heavily reliant on their staff to achieve high levels of health and safety performance. Good human factors practices can be applied to improve safety performance, and it is proposed to set up a European Thematic Network called PRISM to help raise awareness of, and share experience in, the application of human factors approaches. The Network aims to bring about an overall improvement in European process industry safety performance. PRISM will hold regular meetings and seminars throughout Europe, extensively use Internet-based networking to share information, and will develop and freely publish a series of human factors application guides to help industry. The practices of SMEs will be examined and several of the deliverable guides will be tailored to their needs. A major Internet-based virtual conference is planned to roll-out the project deliverables and disseminate the project information as widely as possible.
