Anti-adhesive multi-functional coatings for abrasion/corrosion protection of precision tools for plastics processing

Objective

Increasing functional requirements and miniaturization of products together with advanced materials properties of modern plastics are posing new challenges to plastics processing. Tools wear and corrosion are increasing and in addition, advanced plastics often are highly adhesive to the moulds. These problems are severe with micro-structured moulds and are limiting factors for accuracy ands miniaturisation. The complex problem is to be solved through an integrated approach compining materials and manufacturing technologies for advanced tool development. The aim is to increase accuracy of forming, reduce tooling costs, increase tool life cycles and reduce the use of release agents. Product quality, cost efficiency and low emission processing of plastics products will be improved. Substantial advances in manufacturing of miniaturised are expected. The objectives will be achieved by optimised tool design including micro-forming in combination with improved functional plasma-spray/PVD/galvanic coatings and multi-layers. The technology will be developed in a partnership of RTD performers, equipment suppliers and industrial users.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
