Development of a low cost, intelligent modular system for the diagnostic protection of electrical devices

Objective

This project aims to develop an intelligent modular family of protection devices to protect from overload of power of electrical devices and machinery. Such a system will provide major benefits over the cheap electrical protection devices, which offer only catastrophic protection and further benefits over bespoke protection systems that are generally inflexible and expensive. Industries require a device that monitors the situation, provides continuous feedback, provides a warning giving time to shut down and alarm the equipment preventing a safety critical situation and damaging situation being reached. Such a modular family of protection units with diagnostic capabilities will provide industry with a system with a high degree of flexibility, ease of use and compatibility at an economical cost. It is envisaged that the system will effectively and competently fill the gap between cheap, simple solutions and the expensive dedicated systems.
