Objetivo
Three dimensional in mould decoration is a comparatively high technology method of printing on plastic parts. A film is first printed, then formed to shape and finally inserted into an injection moulding machine and moulded to. This results in a superior quality under surface print, but the process has high capital and set up costs. The combination of improvements in the methods used to register the print carrier to the formed shape and the further development of existing printing technology will lead to a unified system more suitable for the majority of medium size production runs. Novel methods of physically controlling the print carrier during forming using a membrane technology are to be employed. It is anticipated that a prototype printing and forming line will be developed.
