Availability of machinery in the plastics industry by effective reliability engineering

Objective

The aim of this research is to develop condition monitoring and knowledge based expert systems for the plastics processing industry to give advanced warning of impending failure of machinery so that maintenance or other corrective action cane scheduled before failure occurs. The objectives are to reduce breakdowns and overall operating costs by 20 %, extend the operating life of machines by 10 %. At least 10 % of the overall maintenance costs in plastics processing companies will be cut (that would mean an annual saving to the EU of 240 million EURO). These objectives will be achieved within two years of the project completion. Ten companies from France, and Spain will join this project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
