Objective
High-intensity ultrasound could be a useful and clean way to achieve uniform coating of materials and to improve impregnation when incorporated in coating application and drying machinery. Ultrasonic radiation applied to varnishing or painting processes may favour the quick removal of the air and, at the same time, the penetration of the liquid in the wood. The application of the ultrasonic energy has to be based on the right combination of several effects that can be produced by high-intensity ultrasonic waves, such as: bubble breaking, degassing, dewatering, capillary diffusion, radiation pressure, etc. In addition, the practical implementation of this potential technique will require the development of special air-borne ultrasonic radiators capable of generating the required intensities. The objective of this project is the study, development and implementation of a new technology based on the application of air-borne ultrasonic radiation in high-speed quick-drying industrial varnishing and painting processes in order to improve wood surface finishing without using additives.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
