Innovative laser sealing process of thermoplastic packaging in food and medical areas

Objective

Plastic packaging for food and medical areas represent today 70% of the total European production of plastic packaging. European Companies involved in manufacturing of plastic packaging for food and medical industries include a large part of SMEs. In manufacturing process of plastic packaging the sealing steps require special attention as it contributes to hermetic integrity of the packaging. Currently available sealing processes require contact between tooling and packaging material thus they present many manufacturing problems (frequent pollution on the tooling leading to stop of manufacturing lines, risk of contamination inside the packaging). Furthermore they are not georometry flexible. The aim of the project is to develop a new sealing process based on laser which will bring major improvements in plastic packaging for food and medical areas: total non contact process, geometry flexible and computer-controlled process, possibility to make very small welding line enabling rninimisation of packaging material use.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
