Objetivo Today, the hot water from commercial laundries is mainly discharged. Heat recovery with traditional technologies such as heat exchangers is uneconomical and hence not applied. Partial water recycling is applied for only a small portion of the rinse water, where the rinse water from the last rinse cycles is used for pre-treatment of dirty cloth in another washing machine. To date, no technology offering a 'real' and complete water recycling of all effluents occurring during the laundry process is available. Water, energy and detergent consumption as well as wastewater pollution and discharge of commercial laundries can be significantly reduced through the innovative technology proposed here. The aim of the project is the development of a thermophilic bio-membrane reactor technology which is proven to reduce operating costs and minimise the environmental impact of commercial laundries.
