New ergonomical hoists and slings by applying innovative concepts related to users and carers

Objective

Although hoists have existed in the market for decades, and despite of the large number of models available attendants either require too much time to perform transfers effectively or suffer from excessive physical load, which may often lead to injury in the long run. Therefore they are reluctant to use these technical aids. On the other hand, users (elderly and disabled persons with severe mobility limitations) are not willing to accept hoists due to two main reasons: psychological stress (too much time is needed) and physical pain (high pressure areas occur). The project main objective is to develop new models of hoists with slings that make quick and smooth transfers possible without damaging attendants and disabled people. There is a high market demand for a new generation of hoists and slings that give comfort not only to disabled people but also to attendants. The principal industrial objective within this project is to develop such hoists and slings to meet the needs of their customers so that wider market acceptance is gained.
