Integration of novel on-line process monoitoring and control methods for chemical process development

Objective

The rapid development of optimised chemical reactions is severely restricted by the fact that the three main parties involved (i.e. chemical companies, instrument manufacturers and reactor/controller suppliers) work completely separately. The end-user is repeatedly faced with the time consuming task of first combining and then evaluating different devices, often with little prior experience. As a consequence, their use of the available tools is often far from optimal. This proposal, by two reactor/control companies, will overcome this problem by novel integration - and simultaneous use for process control - of the inputs from several different on-line sensors. In order to do this, we will bring together disparate sensor manufacturers and, using combinations of their instruments with our software package for reactor control, develop a unique capability that is ready for uptake by end-user chemical companies.
