Objectif
This project will advance foundation technology for the development of sites to support structures on shallow deposits of soft or organic deposits. Conventional methods, such as piling, are commonly used to support structures on these highly compressible soils but tend to be very expensive, generally making them financially non-feasible. The development of picopile technology has the potential to be a cost-effective alternative to conventional techniques thus allowing the development of marginal land throughout the EU. The objective is to determine if the proposed technology is more cost-effective than conventional methods. This will be done through the development of a decision support design tool supported by finite element analyses and an extensive programme of full-scale field trials. This total design package approach will utilise Artificial Intelligence techniques to the full.
