Objective
The main object of Compo Tiles is to adapt the existing tiles production technology to create composite slabs whose base matrix will be formed by quartz and sands, giving the requested characteristics of resistance and durability to the final product, together with components different quantities of wood fragments inserted in the mixture of the artificial slabs. The random or designed assessment of wood variety fragments will be responsible of the aesthetic characters of the CT for furnishings. This goal will be reached through the implementation of a prototype manufacturing plant to be set up and tested. It is also needed to design the process and define its performance metrics and control systems to provide a clear quantification of the environmental impact of the product; definition of classes of quality for certifying the new produced and to develop an automatic classification system based on surface imaging. The new technology will allow reuse waste materials of stone and wood.
